General Purpose Compute Servers
These are our primary servers (dextro and levo). They handle user login and the point of access to other other services such as web serving, database access, large scale data storage, group or lab-share file storage, desktop access (SMB), as well as home to a large array of research related software for non-parallel scientific computing tasks.
OIT compute servers are currently comprised of:
- Two Sun V40Z servers with 8GB RAM.
- Two Sun V40Z servers with 16GB RAM.
- Operating system is Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
- Each host has 4 AMD Opteron processors.
- Nag, Dkar, Sol and HCL have 4 dual core AMD Opteron processors.
- SUN V40Z- features and benefits
We recently upgraded servers from two e325 servers to six Sun v40z servers powered with 4 Dual-core AMD Opteron processors,Dextro and Levo having 8 GB RAM each, Nag, Dkar, Sol, HCL having 16GB of RAM. We will be adding and continue to work with researchers to expand these capabilities to meet their needs.
